You may at times experience a rare situation where your Campaign Analytics for any MarketingHub or outreach campaigns results in more clicks than opens in an email send.
This does not make sense normally as in order to click through on an email, it is required to be opened.
However, this may occur at times because, in order to track email opens, Panalitix.com uses a web beacon as a way to signal the open event over the internet. The web beacon tells the server that an actor connected to it. The server can not initiate the call, it needs the connecting actor to initiate the signal by downloading a tiny 1px X 1px image on the body of the email.
For security reasons, some email clients allow the user to read and click on links in an email body but block images until the user initiates the download.
That would record a click but not an open.
Outlook for example often does this by default, unless the sender is on the recipient's safe senders list. To add any Campaign emails to your safe sender's list, for Outlook, please follow the instructions on Microsoft's website here.
When the user allows images to be downloaded, his/her browser will send a HTTP GET request to get that image from the server. This will, in turn, leave some fingerprints on the server in the form of access logs, which can be parsed by the system to find out if the mail was opened and display the analytics data.
